Photo Server is a free iPhone app that allows you to transfer photos (and videos with Pro upgrade) stored in your camera roll between Apple iMobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad. Photos can be transferred with either WiFi or Bluetooth. Once the BlueTooth connection is established between the devices, choose your photograph and the app automatically begins transmitting it via BlueTooth to the other device. Once received on the other device you can view the picture and save it to your camera roll.
Known limitations: On devices lower than the iPhone 3Gs one can only receive photos because of the limitations to the built in video pickers on those devices, so they cannot transmit videos.
Note: This is for photos and videos stored in your device's camera roll. The Photo Server app will not transfer videos or photos stored in your iPod music or Videos apps, such as music videos and movies downloaded from iTunes.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Photo Server allows you to exchange iPhone's JPEG pictures (and QuickTime (.MOV) videos with Pro upgrade) in your device's camera roll with other Apple mobile devices (iPod Touchs, iPhones, and iPads) via BlueTooth and WiFi as well as with computers on your WiFi router's local area network.
- Press BlueTooth switch to create a BlueTooth connection to another Apple mobile device that is also running Photo Server. Both devices must initiate BlueTooth to connect. When the other device is visible in the BlueTooth dialog box select the connection, and then accept the connection on the other device.
Press Load button to pick video or picture to transmit via BlueTooth. Note that transmitting long videos via BlueTooth can take a while.
- Press View to play video or view picture after transmission.
- Press Cancel to if you wish to cancel a BlueTooth transmission.
- Press WiFi to detect other Apple mobile devices on your local WiFi LAN. Select a link to the another device to connect via WiFi and view pictures and videos available on that device. From the list choose a picture or video to transmit to your device. WiFi transmission can be much faster than BlueTooth.
- Ensure the server toggle switch is in the ON position to use WiFi or the web browser interface. It may be necessary to reinitialize the server when Photo Server is restarted on a multitasking device by turning the switch off for several seconds. Navigate a web browser on computer on your router's LAN to the IP address shown below the switch to view the web browser interface, which should then display a web page with the list of videos and pictures on your Apple mobile device, as well as file selection and upload buttons.
- To save a picture or video to your computer using the web browser interface, right-click on the link and use the "Save Link As..." context menu selection that is available in most web browsers to download the file. Full scale pictures and videos from your Apple mobile device can be shown in the browser by selecting the links normally.
- To upload an iPhone compatible Apple QuickTime (.MOV) file or a .JPG picture file use the "Choose File" button on the web page to select the file and then the "Upload" button to upload it to your Apple mobile device. If the file is incompatible with your Apple mobile device then it will give you a incompatibility warning when you try save it on the device after upload.
- With the Pro Video upgrade, which can be purchased in app by pressing the title, the iPhone QuickTime (.MOV) videos taken with your device can also be transferred. Also iAds are disabled with the Pro upgrade. In general these instructions are written assuming the Pro version has been purchased.
- To use Photo Server as an internet web server, please see you WiFi router's documentation on port forwarding. Set a port forwarding address on the router to the address shown on Photo Server. You may want to turn off your device's automatic off time in settings under Settings --> General --> Auto-Lock to keep your device on. In such a case please remember to provide continuous charging to your device if it is to remain on for long periods.

FAQs
Question On a multitasking device such as an iPhone 4, when I start Photo Server again, it is already running but the WiFi connection doesn't work.
Answer: If restarting in multitasking mode the Wifi connection will need to be reinitialized by turning the Photo Server slider switch off for several seconds and then turning the photo server switch back on.
Question: HD videos from an iPhone 4 can not be saved to an older model iPhone because of incompatibility.
Answer: Since the HD format was not contemplated for older iPhone's it does not recognize it as a valid format. However, it may work if the iPhone 3G is upgraded to iOS4. I'm not sure at this time because I don't have an iPhone 3Gs with iOS4 to test with.
Question: I can't select more than one video at a time in the video picker dialog
Answer: Videos are loaded one at a time. The image picker interface doesn't allow one to pick more than one video at a time.
Question: How do I trim a video clip?
Answer: Trim the video by selecting the portion of the video you want to import using the sliders on the film strip at the top of the video import window which appears after you select which video you want to import. Trimming is not available on devices lower than the iPhone 3Gs.
Question: Is there a maximum size of a video clip I can load?
Answer: There is a maximum 10 minute size to importing video clips on the iPhone's regular video picker. This is a built in limitation of the iPhone OS, so there is nothing I can do to lengthen it unless Apple decides to change this limitation.
Question: Does Photo Server work on iPhones other than the 3Gs and iPhone 4?
Answer: Because of limitations with the hardware of iPhones lower than 3Gs and iPod Touches some features are not available, such as trimming. However, one can receive videos that are sent from other devices.
Question: Can I use videos from third party apps or non-iPhone sources?
Answer: If it is in the incorrect QuickTime format, you may not be able to save it on the other device due to incompatibility with the iPhone.
