INSTRUCTIONS:

There are three main functions: Add, Play, and Save.
• Click an Add button to add a video clip from the iPhone's camera roll. Video clips are joined to the end of the current video composition as they are added.
• Click the Play button to play the current video composition.
• Click the Save button to save your video composition to the iPhone’s camera roll.
• Note: Although joining different resolutions of videos (combining video from front and back cameras) is now supported, it works only with landscape-oriented videos. Portrait-oriented video (taller than wide) can not be imported. If Videos from the front and the back cameras are combined then there will be some cut off video due to the back camera having a wider video resolution than the front camera. Videos from third party applications or sources that are not compatible with the iOS Quicktime video format may not work.
• Video-Joiner Free can be cheaply upgraded to full Video-Joiner functionality which allows the addition of more than three clips. In addition iAds will no longer show (after restart). Simply click the Purchase Upgrade button at the bottom of the Information screen.
• Another option to enable additional video adds is to view an iAd. If you view an iAd during the session, additional video adds will be enabled for that session. Currently iAds are not enabled in all countries by Apple. A default Ad is available at the top of the screen when iAds are not available.
• The final option for adding four or more if you don't want to upgrade or watch an iAd, is to save the joined video, then reset the project, and then add the saved video as the first video.

Other:

• Note: If you close the application while saving or splicing a video file then the file will probably end up being invalid.
• Note: Videos from third-party video recording applications may not be able to be joined properly because of differences in video formats.

  Version 2.1 “What’s new”

• The back camera has a wider resolution than the front camera, so now there are zoomed imports when combining different resolutions (front and back cameras) to fill the screen and prevent blacked out areas. However there will necessarily be some cutting out of a portion of the video for videos of different orientations to do this because the front camera has a wider resolution than the front camera There will not be cutting out of video for videos of the same resolution.

FAQs

Question: I can't select more than one video at a time in the video picker dialog
Answer: Videos are loaded one at a time. The image picker interface doesn't allow one to pick more than one video at a time. After loading the first video, click the Add button to load the second (or third etc...) video files one at a time. The newly added videos will be automatically joined to the end of the latest combined video as they are loaded one at a time.

Question: How do I trim a video clip?
Answer: Trim the video by selecting the portion of the video you want to import using the sliders on the film strip at the top of the video import window which appears after you select which video you want to import. Trimming is not available on the iPhone 3G and the iPod Touch (trimming may be available on the new iPod Touch expected in Fall 2010).

Question: Is there a maximum size of a video clip I can load?
Answer: There is a maximum 10 minute size to importing video clips on the iPhone's regular video picker. This is a built in limitation of the iPhone OS, so there is nothing I can do to lengthen it unless Apple decides to change this limitation. However with the new alternate video picker, one can import a video file longer than 10 minutes. Also, videos can be joined together to a size larger than 10 minutes and saved with a duration longer than 10 minutes.

Question: Does Video Joiner work with third party video recording applications?
Answer: Third party apps may not use the same video format as used in the QuickTime implementation of the iPhone's built in video recorder, and therefore will probably not work.

Question: Does Video Joiner work on iPhones other than the 3Gs and iPhone 4?
Answer: Because of limitations with the hardware the iPhone 3G and Touches some features are not available, such as trimming. I'm not sure of all the limitations because I don't have a iPhone 3G running iOS4.

Question: Can I use imported videos?
Answer: Videos can be imported with iTunes to the iPhone's Photo Library or directly with Xfer Videos. Note: many third party apps do not record in the correct QuickTime format used by the iPhone and iTunes often rejects those. To use imported videos, they must be in a format compatible with that device. older iPhones may or may not be able to use the HD format used by the iPhone 4.
